| What are we learning?
Reading - We are beginning to read about the adventures of Ramona in the book
Ramona Quimby, Age 8. During this study we will be working on our fluency as
well as our comprehension of the text. This book study will take us until
the last week of school. We are coming to the end of our poetry unit. We
have discussed how poets use simile and metaphor in their poems and copied
short poems into a poetry book. We have also be looked at personification and
alliteration. We will wrap up the unit with onomotopoeia and haiku.
Social Studies - We will be learning about some famous historical figures
during the next few weeks. These include Helen Keller, the Wright Brothers,
Louis Pasteur, Florence Nightingale, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell,
and Abraham Lincoln.
Math - We will be wrapping up our Graphing unit this week and taking our post
test. During the last few weeks of school we will be working on place value
and estimation as a preview to fourth grade.
Spelling- We will have a spelling test next Friday, but it will not be our
typical spelling list. Our spelling words for next week will focus on
numbers written in word form. Our spelling test will be next Friday, May 9.
