Reading Club

Independent Reading and testing on the Accelerated Reader Program (AR) will be greatly emphasized in our classroom. It will be how our monthly Reading Clubs are formed each month beginning at the end of September or October depending on when the school system is up and running.

I will take a photo of our book club members each month that I  will post in our hallway. This is a great way to track a child's individual reading and comprehension levels each month. The ultimate goal is for each child to push themselves to higher levels of success as the school year progresses. This has been very successful in my class year after year.

Rewards are also earned for making any of the Clubs each month. To be a member you have to have read and tested on a minimum of 7 books and received an overall comprehension score of 70-100% level. All children can read on levels that are comfortable for them to begin with and then gradually raise their reading levels throughout the year. When children read for AR they are reading for pleasure. They should be reading on level and they should read a variety of genres.

This is also the year that a child must pass the CRCT in order to pass into the fourth grade. This AR program is a great way to help them become better readers. Encourage them to join in each month and work hard, they will reap the benefits of their labor!
