To find an adverb: Go, Ask, Get.

To find an adjective: Go, Ask, Get.

Where do I go? To a noun or a pronoun.

The way we work through a sentence is:

The small heavy math books fell loudly yesterday.

What fell loudly yesterday? Books, subject noun.

What is being said about books? Books fell, verb.

What kind of books? Math, adjective.

What kind of books?  Heavy, adjective.

What kind of books? Small, adjective.

The, Article Adjective.

Fell how? Loudly, adverb.

Fell when? Yesterday, adverb.

When we are done they will eventually be able to label their sentences like this?

A     adj         adj      adj       SN        V      adv        adv             Declarative, D

The   small   heavy   math   books   fell   loudly   yesterday.

If we use the jingles and think about the meaning:

To find an adjective we go back to the noun and then begin to ask our questions and what we get is our answer. We go to the noun, we ask our adjective questions, and we get our adjective.

To find an adverb we go to the verb (in our sequencing) and we ask our questions and we get our adverbs.

A, An, and The are always article adjectives.

Article Adjective Jingle:

We are the article adjectives,

Teeny, tiny adjectives.

A, AN, THE – A, AN, THE

We are called article adjectives and noun markers;

We are memorized and used everyday.

So, if you spot us, you can mark us

With the label A. With the label A.

We are the article adjectives,

Teeny, tiny adjectives.

A, AN, THE – A, AN, THE

Additional sentences that you can use to work with at home:

The baby deer leaped softly yesterday.
