Homework

Homework is given out to students every Friday and is expected to be
returned and completed the following Friday along with any signed or
important papers.

Homework should be chunked up and done in small amounts throughout the week
and should be checked by a parent. This is your time to work one on one with
your child at home on any areas of weakness they may have. It is also your
time to assess and praise their areas of academic strength.

Students who do homework consistently and have it checked by a concerned and
involved parent make greater academic progress that those who do not.

Homework is curriculum based and its intention is to help them master the
concepts required by the state of Georgia. As concepts are mastered this in
turn helps students to prepare for success on the CRCT.

A third grade student should not have more than 30 minutes of homework each
evening.

If a child finishes homework quickly then they should also have a time of
reading. This is also homework. They can read silently, to someone else, or
to a sibling. Rereading books is a great way to increase fluency and build
up those comprehension muscles. The more a child reads the better reader
they will become. Anything that we want to do well is worth investing time
and energy upon!

Homework is important. Do you believe it? Do you model it at home? Do you
demonstrate your belief in its importance in the value that you place upon
it?

Each parent has been given a parent guide to help them with the homework
this school year. Answer keys, helpful hints, and models have been given to
make this year easier for you as a parent or guardian. I suggest that you
keep the guide in a secure location in a binder or folder.

Homework is not graded but is for the benefit of the child. It provides
practice and repetition and it is your opportunity to work with your child
one on one. Though not graded homework is looked over and is considered an
important part of your child's work this school year. It is useful and
helpful! Homework is tracked but not graded.
