What is your classroom management plan?

I use a system called the "Mini-Economy" for our classroom management
system. Students fill out job applications, get references and are then are
selected by the teacher to fill a position. EVERY student has a job and
some
jobs may include more than one student. The first week of school we set up
our "Laws" and decide what type of "bonuses" for good citizenship or "fines"
will be given if those laws are broken. As a class we also talk about how
much each bonus or fine will be worth. Because this is a mini-economy,
student do get paid for their job on a monthly basis and the fines are taken
from their "account". I give them a checkbook so that they can keep track
of
their debits and credits or "fines" and "bonuses" . The students run this
system (of course with my supervision). They can use their money to buy
special coupons to be used in the classroom or they can spend it on our Year-
End Outdoor Market Day when they sell and buy products made by their friends
in fifth grade.

What is the best way to contact me?

The best way to contact me is by note or by email. I will try to get back
to you as quickly as possible. Also, if needed, you can leave me a voice
mail by calling the school at 770-975-6655. Please let the office know that
you are leaving a voicemail so that I can check these messages before
leaving the building.

Should I be signing a blank agenda page?

No. We will write something in our agenda each day. Sometimes it is a
message like "Be nice to your parents this weekend." All homework is clearly
posted on the board and I give ample time to update agendas.

What if my child forgets their homework at school?

Don't panic. It is your child's responsibility to remember what to bring
home and what has been assigned. Give your child a limit on how many times
you will run back to school. Your child might have time in the morning to
finish up an assignment instead of doing morning work, but this can't turn
into a habit. All homework needs to be checked in by 8:00 am.
