I run a "mini" economy in our classroom. Each child has a job and is paid
for their job each month. Jobs will rotate every quarter to be fair. Out of
their salary they pay taxes, rent and insurance. Each is discussed and is
related to the real world experiences. We create "laws" and also discuss and
agree on "fines" and "bonuses" for breaking laws or for being a good citizen.
About two times a year we hold Market Day. This is when the kids have the
chance to spend their "Nikins Numbers". The kids get to market, create,
buy, and sell products. This is a BLAST! Specific information will come
home about this.
