Mini-Economy

 I am using a system called the “Mini-Economy” for our classroom management system.  The class basically works like an economy.  Every student has a job and some jobs may include more than one student.  Because this is a mini-economy, students do get paid for their job on a monthly basis if they do their job.  They pay rent for their desks and chairs, and receives bonuses for exceptional behavior as well as fines which can be taken from their “account”.  We use "Rickeard" bucks to buy classroom coupons from the General Store.  These fun activities range from eating with a friend to bringing a stuffed animal to school. 
Also, we will have a “Market Day” approximately 3 times throughout the school year.  This is another way for the students to use the money that they’ve earned.  Each student will come up with a product, make it, market it, and sell it.  “Market Day” will help the students to understand the concept of supply and demand.  A Mini-Economy is a great way for students to learn about economics, learn about managing money, and improve student learning and motivation.
