What are we learning?

Reading - We are continuing to read about the adventures of Ramona in the book Ramona Quimby, Age 8. The class has really enjoyed this book so far, and they are doing great on the comprehension questions at the end of each chapter. We will continue reading about Ramona for the next week to two weeks. We won't have time for each student to pick a separate Beverly Cleary book to read, so we will be working on a short in class project about this book once we finish reading it.

We are also continuing our poetry unit. We have discussed how poets use simile and metaphor in their poems and copied short poems into a poetry book. We will also be looking at personification, alliteration, and onomotopoeia in poetry. We will wrap up the unit by writing several poems including a haiku, cinquain, diamonte, shape poem, bio poem, acrostic, and rhyming poem.

Social Studies - We will be learning about some famous historical figures during the next few weeks. These include Helen Keller, the Wright Brothers, Louis Pasteur, Florence Nightingale, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, and Abraham Lincoln.

Math - We will be wrapping up our Graphing unit this week and taking our post test. During the last few weeks of school we will be working on some challenge and extension activities to stretch our thinking.
