The target goal for a first grader to be reading is 60 words per minute by the end of the first grade year.  Students will be bringing home a First Grade Reader to be read each week. Some nights your child will read all of the story, other nights they will read only half. It is very important that you listen to your child read and then ask them questions about what they read. Ask them to predict what will happen and to  summarize what they have just read. In addition to this reader, your child should be reading a library book each night and taking AR tests daily.
