Important Mathematics Information

Work Standards:
1.All papers must have your name and date on them. If appropriate, the page number,
lesson number, and problem numbers.
2.Mrs. Hamrick requires pencils to be used in class. NO PENS ALLOWED! Work is also
expected to be legible, which means that Mrs. Hamrick can read it.
3.If you are caught copying someone else’s homework, you will receive a zero. If another
student is caught with your paper, and you have knowledge of this, you will also receive a zero!
4.All work is to be kept in an organized notebook with the following categories:
•problem of the day
•classwork/homework
•quizzes/tests
•extra notebook paper
5.Mrs. Hamrick does not accept late homework. You will receive five points off your grade
each time you choose not to complete your homework.

Homework/Classwork:
Students will have homework most nights except Fridays. Questions about individual
homework items will be addressed after the homework is checked. Methods of checking homework
are:
•Walking around the room and scanning each student’s paper
•Collecting a class set of papers
•Unannounced homework checks

Tutoring:
Mrs. Hamrick will offer tutoring Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 7:00 –
7:25 AM. It is your responsibility to get a note from Mrs. Hamrick the day before you plan on
coming to tutoring. If you do not have a note, you will not be allowed in the halls.

Quizzes/Tests:
Most quizzes and tests will be given on Friday. However, I may give pop quizzes. You
have the opportunity to answer the problem of the week for an extra 5 points on your quiz or
test that week. All answers to the problem of the week must be turned in by Thursday afternoon.

Grading Scale:
Homework – 10%
Classwork – 20%
Quizzes – 30%
Tests – 40%

Absences and Make-Up Work:
If you are in class on the day a test, assignment or project is announced, you must be
prepared for it on the due date or test date. If you are absent on the test date, you must make
it up the day you return. It is the sole responsibility of the student to ask the teacher for
any make-up work that is required. This should be done on the first day the students returns
after an absence. At that time, the student will be informed of the due date for the make-up
work. Students leaving school early or arriving to school late are to see Mrs. Hamrick for that
day’s assignments.

One final note…Mrs. Hamrick is here to help you. While she has many skills and talents, mind
reading is not one of them. She can only help if you ask her for help and then make an honest
attempt to learn the material. Ask for help as soon as you have a problem. Don’t wait until
you’ve buried yourself under a mound of problems. Some areas will be tougher than others, but
the key is to stay calm, keep focused, and break things down into smaller steps. If you are
willing to put forth a good effort, this year will be one of the best years ever!!
