Expectations
I
expect all my students to:
- Come to class
prepared. Have your book,
notebook, homework, pencils, and planner. Do not ask to go back to your
locker!!
- Listen carefully and
follow all directions the first
time they are given.
- Take responsibility for
yourself and your actions. Know
that this class, like life, consists of making choices that have both
positive and negative consequences.
- Be respectful of others
– their property, their questions, and their differences.
Failure
to follow the classroom expectations will result in the following consequences:
- Verbal warning
- Signing Discipline Book
- Isolation/New seat
within the classroom/Silent Lunch
- One-on–one meeting to
discuss future consequences for continued inappropriate behavior / letter
home
- Detention / Parent
notification/phone call
Methods of
Evaluation and Assessment
A variety of methods will be used throughout the year to
assess your progress toward meeting the Georgia Performance Standards. To help
you understand how your assignments will be weighted, please review the
following scale:
Test and Projects - 35%
Quizzes, Classwork, Homework - 30%
Current Events - 20%
Final - 15%
Make-Up/ Zero Policies
o
Students who are absent from school for any reason
(this includes absences for School Sponsored Activities) are responsible for
arranging make-up work.
o
All graded assignments (tests and quizzes) during a
student’s absence must be completed before or after school at the convenience
of the teacher within the next 5 days.
o
Missed work will not be made up during regularly
scheduled class time.
o
Incompletes will not be given. If a student has missed
an assignment due to an absence, a grade of zero will be averaged in the place
of that grade until the student makes up the work within a prescribed length of
time.
o
All pre-assigned work will be due on the day of a
student’s return from an absence.
No more than one (1) grade of zero (0) should be assigned
during a grading period unless a parent contact is made. A parent will be
contacted (e-mail, note in the planner, phone call, or grade sheet) if a grade
of zero (0) is assigned after the first zero (0). Students who continually chose
not to complete their work will be assigned “Shenk’s Lunch Crunch” where they
will work to complete the assignment during lunch or they will be required to
stay after school to complete the work. It is not acceptable for
students to not complete assignments.
Medical Conditions
–
If a student is on any medication, or has specific medical
problems (including the need for more frequent restroom privileges) please let
me know in writing as soon as possible.
Communication
–
I feel that two-way communication is very important. I call or email parents for a variety of
reasons and hope that parents will take the time to contact me if they have
questions or concerns. My planning time
is 9:40 – 11:10. Please feel free to
call during this time at 650-6080 to talk or set up a conference. At other times you will be able to leave a
voice message for me at ext. 334.
Please feel free to email me as well, as it is my preferred method of communication. My email address is amy.shenk@ccboe.net. Also, please check my website http://teacherweb.com/GA/GreenbrierMiddleSchool/MrsAmyShenk/
. Be sure to visit the Homework and
Updates link and add your e-mail address so you can receive updates about the
class.
Over the next few weeks, your child will become acquainted
with the more specific rules and expectations that I have for my classes. I look forward to a great year in which your
child will learn, grow, and become a more responsible young man or lady. If teachers, parents, and students will all
do their part, then we can reach our goal of having students ready to enter the
seventh grade by the middle of May 2009.
