When can my child make up his or her work?
I will assign a 4 make sessions days during the nine weeks. If your child
is
unable to attend any of the sessions -- he or she will need to get with me
in
order to schedule an alternate date. Every attempt will be made to
accomodate your child.
--------------------------------------
How can my child's grade be affected by attendance?
Each day your child is in class he or she earns 50 participation points. If
your child is absent for any reason except a school related function he or
she must bring in an excused absence note signed by a parent within two days
to recieve their 50 points. Any missed work will need to be made up within
the time limit described in the student handbook.
--------------------------------------
How can I help my child study for your class.
Since all classwork is done in the classroom the best way to help your child
is to ask them how they are progressing through the module. Feel free to
contact me if there are any concerns or problems.
There may be up to three out of class assignments that will be assigned
during the nine weeks.
--------------------------------------
How do you calculate grades?
Your child's grade will be determined by how many points he or she can earn
divided by the total points possible. 2250 points will be earned
as part of a students "Work Ethic" grade. Up to 1500 points will be earned
through the modules,500 points per module. 750 additional points can be
earned through a variety of in-class assignments assigned by the teacher and
600 points for out-of-class assignments.
Extra-credit assignments will be assigned through out the nine weeks. These
additional points are simply added to your childs point totals.
--------------------------------------
Where do the 500 points for each module come from.
Your child earns:
* 100 points for defining 10 vocabulary words correctly (10 pts per word.)
* 100 points for answering 10 multiple choice study questions (10 pts. per
Question
* 100 points for completing 10 journal entries. The journal entries are on
predetermined topics discussed in your childs module book.
* 100 points for completing the module activities. 10 points per activity
day.
* 100 points for a post test on your child's module.
--------------------------------------
Can my child do extra-credit work to help bring up his or her grade?
I do assign a variety of extra-credit work for students during the course of
the nine weeks. Extra-credit work must be done in-class at the time that it
was assigned. If your child is absent on a day where extra-credit was
assigned, then he or she will have an opportunity to make that assignment up
when they make up his or her abscence. To view a list of the extra-credit
assignments that have already been assigned click on the homework link at
the
top of the page. The list will be at the bottom of the "homework" page.

What exactly is a "Work Ethic" grade?
One of the focuses of the career oriented exploratory courses is to respond
to the statement that our students have the skills to enter the workforce --
but lack the skills or "work ethic" to keep a job. The Work Ethic grade
reflects the student's ability to be on time, be prepared, and stay on task
as they complete their modules. Students simply have to write in the 50
points on their student calenders to earn the daily grade. The students can
lose points if they are unprepared, tardy, violate class rules or become off
task.
