The first week of written homework will be sent home August 31, 2009. You 
will need to practice the assigned sight words with your child beginning on 
August 10th. I will be teaching 3 a week in class, and I need you to provide 
your child with extra practice at home.

Homework is sent home on Mondays and due back every Thursday.  Your child 
will receive 3 sheets of homework for practice.

Homework is very important to a child's success in school. Homework gives 
your child extra practice reviewing important skills learned during class. 
Homework reflects the objectives that students are learning in the 
classroom. You can make your child's homework a positive experience. Please 
help him/her complete it each night. Please be sure that your child has the 
necessary supplies to complete assignments. I ask that students not complete 
homework assignments in ink or marker. Please have them use a pencil.Please 
make sure it is completed and turned in by the due date.
Please do not do homework assignments in pen.

Reading is a  developmental process that begins at home.  As a parent, you 
play a critical role in teaching your child how to read.  The most important 
thing you can do is read to your child. When you read to your child, he or 
she sees that you value reading. Writing and reading are closely connected.  
Because of this, it is important that you encourage all attempts made by 
your child in the writing process.  When your child writes, ask him or her 
what it says. Accept all scribbles, pictures, and letters as writing.

Please make sure the homework is done neatly. I am teaching the children to 
do their very best at school. If I send lined paper home,have your child 
write on the lines correctly. If the homework assignment is a coloring one, 
please have your child color neatly inside the lines. I am preparing your 
child for first grade and teaching him/her to take pride in his/her work. 
Classwork that is done hurriedly and sloppily will not be accepted. I will 
have your child redo the assignment.

The first few weeks of school, the children will practice writing their 
first name. Please help them with their name at home.This will give them the 
additional practice that they need. The only capital letter should be the 
first letter in their name unless they have a name that has more than one 
capital. Ex: Billy instead of BIllY or BiLLy.When your child has learned how 
to write his/her first name, we will move on to the last name. Please 
continue to practice the sight words and alphabet letters at home with your 
child. I will  be closely working with your child at school.
