Dear parents, Grades are available online. To access grades, please use your child's ID Number. If you are unaware of their number, please check inside the front cover of their agenda. Please be aware that the system I use for averaging is not used in the online averages you see. My webpage provider allots me only certain space and I feel it better to post the 100 point scale grade that everyone is most familiar with. For the most part, averages are slightly higher using the 5 point scale averaging system. For A's, I assign 5 points; B's 4 points; C's 3 points; D's 2 point; F's 1 point. I add these values up, then divide by the total number of assignments to find the average. This system is fair considering that if your child fails an assignment badly or does poorly, there is still a chance to recover. There are few situations in which this system hurts a student. I have not encountered one yet. If your child was absent for an assignment, they must make these up. If you notice a zero for an assignment given while your child was absent, please bring this to my attention to ensure that this was not an oversight. Incomplete assignments must be made up unless otherwise noted. There are deadlines for assignments to be completed. There are some assignments that may not be able to be completed after the fact (for example if it involves predictions in reading). If you or your child has a question about an incomplete assignment, please ask. I hope that having access to these grades is beneficial. I will work to keep these as up to date as possible. Please understand that I do keep written copy of all grades, but I must then enter them into a program before publishing them online. I have added a few extra steps to my load, so I may falter in being timely when the assignment load is heavy. Please have understanding. When examining grades, you may encounter the terms: - "pend" means the assignment is pending (must be graded). - "exc" means the child was excused from this assignment or not required to complete that assignment. - "abs" means your child was absent for this assignment. - "Inc" means your child did not turn in, or complete, that assignment. If you notice an "Inc" for an assignment, I'll accept late assignments with penalty. I try to point out to the kids whose assignments I did not receive and I alert the class when grades are posted so they may see if they missed an assignment. The biggest problem I encounter is that kids fail to write their name in the assignment and then do not claim it. Please remind them of every assignment's importance. Thanks, Shane Brazile
