September 7-October 14

*

The fifth graders have been learning how to use First Class! First Class is so much more than email. Please go to my General Links page to find the link for downloading the program to your home computer and/or for accessing First Class from the internet. Students must agree to the Technology and Internet Usage rules from the student code of conduct. I sent home a sheet for students to go over the information with their parents. If you need another form, you can find it on my files page. Students not returning this signed sheet will not be allowed to use First Class.

*

We have also revisited how to log in to Typing Pal. These days everyone needs to learn how to type: most people use email on a daily basis, most teachers like papers to be typed, even texting is based on typing skills. Practice and do it the way the program asks you to! Login information is located at the very bottom of this page, just scroll down.

*

There are new computer logging in procedures! Every student must now log in to the Kittredge computers using their technology code and a password that they create. This gives each student access to their own virtual drive to save their projects on. Unfortunately, there is not a functioning share drive so students need to bring a flash drive to help save items to get back and forth to home. (First Class only holds 10 Megabytes of information and many projects students create are larger than that if there are pictures in it).

*

********************************************************************

August 22-September 6

*

The 4th graders will learning how to log in to the student computers, the basic vocabulary of the computer, and how to access the Kittredge Website from any where in the world. The students will also get their Typing Pal account information so that they may practice their typing skills from home.

*

*******************************************************************

August 17-August 18

*

In the 4th grade we will be taking some math facts tests to assess where the students are in their mastery of the basic facts for addition and subtraction. Math facts mastery is the basic foundation of all higher math. If a student does not know their math facts well, it will only hinder their math ability later as they go beyond the basics. Please practice your math facts to increase your accuracy and speed.

*

*******************************************************************

August 11 - August 16

*

The Sixth grade students will be reviewing how to log in to the servers at school and how to log in to FirstClass, the county's email program. Again we will be focusing on typing skills this year. It is very important for students to learn how to type properly. It is no longer an optional skill, but more of a life skill. Please encourage your child to practice at least 30 minutes once a week.
