Materials for Spanish 2 and 4 -August 2009

*One Composition Book (Mead type)
*One Jumbo book-cover (book sox) 
*Blue or black ink pen. 
*One package mechanical pencils
*One three ring binder (2 inches) 
*Three packages of wide ruled paper 
*Three tabbed dividers with pockets 
*Two packages of 3X5 index ruled cards 

 
Classroom Procedures:

1.- Come to class on time 

2.- Be prepared for class

3.- Wait for your turn to speak

4.- Follow instructions and stay on task

5.- Answer politely


*Enter the classroom quietly. Please, be on time and take care of ALL your
needs before coming into class. For example, drinking water, going to the
bathroom, getting things from the locker etc. 

*Have your homework and all your class materials on your desk. Put everything
extra in the place assigned. When the tardy bell rings you should be working
on your first assignment which will be posted on the whiteboard or on the
overhead. Please, stay on task.

*Please, raise your hand and wait for your turn to speak. Keep your hands,
feet and other objects to yourself. This includes not throwing objects in the
classroom. Personal grooming, cursing, making odd noises, note-writing and
working on non-Spanish materials is prohibited. Please, Do not put your head
on your desk, keep your desk clean and free of markings, raise your hand and
wait for permission if you must leave your seat. 

*Journals- Spanish 2 & 4. You will be required to keep a daily entry in the
journal.  At the beginning of each class you will write the date in Spanish.
The day of the week, the month and the year will be posted on the white-board
daily. Immediately, start working on the assignment, translation etc. during
the first few minutes of class each day. Your handwriting should be clear and
neat. These journal entries will be graded  each nine weeks. 


*Heading- All papers turned in to me must have a heading on them. Write three
things in the upper right hand corner of your paper:  
1) Your Spanish name and your last name (or code number, if applicable, I will
give you a code number) 
2) The class period  
3) The date in Spanish (This will be posted daily on the white-board). 

*Attention- Teacher will stand in front of the room and may raise her arm to
let you know to stop what you are doing and pay attention and/or change task.

*Getting Help- If you need help with an assignment, raise your hand and stand
your textbook on your desk to alert your teacher, continue working on the next
thing while help arrives. 

*To turn in papers- Put your paper on the next desk by your side. That student
will add his/her paper on top of yours and place them on the desk to his/her
side, again that student will add his/her paper onto the stack and pass it on
to the next desk until all the papers have been placed on the side desk at the
end of each row of the class. Please do not hand the tests into students’
hands but, place the tests on the desk to the side. This prevents accidents
such as papers dropped on the floor etc.

*Dismissal of class- Remain working at your seat until the bell rings. 
After the bell rings, your Teacher will dismiss you promptly. Put all your
materials away. Check around your desk, clean up your desk area, put any trash
in the trashcan. Leave the classroom quietly.



 What are the consequences if I choose not to follow procedures? 

1st:      Student will make a card or some token of apology.

2nd:     "Págame"(pay me) 10 points off participation grade. To earn these
back, student will hand-write 25 Spanish words and the translation into
English from the current chapter of study. This is due to teacher at the end
of class or next day.

3rd:     Págame (same as above) and/or 30 minutes teacher's detention.

4th:     Págame, one hour teachers’ detention and a call to parents 
         for a conference. 
           
          *If a student forgets to comply, we move to the next consequence.
          *If the problem persists, or for a severe disruption or disrespect,
teacher will skip the steps above, student will receive a discipline referral
and a call for a conference with parents and administrators.


 What are the rewards for following the procedures?

1. Grade of 100 in participation at the end of each quarter.
2. Self pride for a job well done.
3. Verbal Praise
4. Positive notes and/or e-mail sent to home.
5. Educational songs games and movies.
6. Homework pass.
7. Various other positive rewards throughout the year. More fun!




LHS SPANISH CLUB 
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE FOR THE YEAR 2009-2010.

MISSION: "To promote the use of the Spanish language"
To learn about the various cultures and customs of the Hispanic Countries 
through their music, food and celebrations. To develop camaraderie among 
Spanish speakers.


August: 
*Sign up for Spanish Club. 
*Nomination of Spanish Club Officers.
*Meetings: first Tuesday of each month unless otherwise announced. 
*ATTENDANCE: If you miss more than 5 meetings you will be dropped from the 
club.

September: Election/Appointment of Spanish Club Officers.

October:  Instead of membership dues...
Each of the Spanish Club Members will bring one grocery bag of can food for 
the Golden Harvest Food Bank Drive "It's Spooky to Be Hungry". Please, be 
generous!!

November: Celebration of El Dia De Los Muertos. We'll make a Hispanic Fall 
craft/watch a movie about this holiday in Mexico.

December: Las Posadas Celebration. We'll learn about the celebration of this 
holiday. We will meet at "El Alazan Mexican Restaurant" on Fury's Ferry Road 
for food, camaraderie and practice speaking Spanish. We will meet at 5:30pm 
The date will be announced. 

January: Fiesta de Reyes. Students will prepare a 'rosca de reyes' and learn
about this Hispanic Holiday.

February: El Dia de San Valentin. Celebrating 'El Dia de la Amistad'.

March: Film in Spanish to be announced. Room 113 after school.

April: Holidays no meeting.

May: 'Cinco de Mayo' celebration party at a local (to be announced) Mexican
Restaurant. We'll meet at 5:30  pm.
