Raider Training starts on 6 July:

The Raider Team begins practicing on 6 July every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 0700-0900 until the beginning of school.  The schedule will be modified during mini-camp.  The Raiders are open to both male and females and they compete in physically demanding events which include the army physical fitness test (push-ups, sit-ups and 2 mile run), two to five mile cross country runs, obstacle courses, rope bridge crossings and cross country rescues.  Last year the Lakeside Raiders won first place overall in three competitions and placed 2nd in the State of Georgia for the second year in a row.  Wear comfortable workout clothes and running shoes for practice.  Stop by the portable #4 and see MAJ McKean for physical and insurance forms.

Legion Drill Camp 7-10 July:

The Legion Drill Team will hold its Third Annual Drill Camp on 7– 10 July, from 0930 – 1330.   It is open to all cadets interested in armed and unarmed drill, including freshmen.  The unarmed and armed drill includes basic marching and drilling techniques right out of Field Manual 3-21.5, as practiced by the U.S. Army.  The Drill Team also practices exhibition drill which includes the spinning and throwing of the rifles as practiced by the U.S. Army’s “Old Guard” and other elite drill teams from around the nation.  This year our Legion won first place in armed exhibition at the State and National Drill Competitions.  The Drill Team also placed third overall at Nationals, which was our best effort to date.

LHS Leadership Camp 28-31 July:

To ensure that our cadets get off to a good start for SY 09-10 we are conducting a 4-day JROTC Leadership Mini-Camp from 28 - 31 July at the JROTC building at Lakeside High School. The primary purpose of the mini-camp is to review correct procedures for conducting Drill and Ceremonies, prepare our future leaders in Techniques of Leadership, welcome incoming freshmen and make plans for the various activities of the JROTC program during SY 09-10. The secondary purpose is to give cadets an opportunity to get to know each other better and develop an understanding between the cadets and instructors.

The mini-camp will start with a formation at 0900 ( 9 AM) each morning.  All students must comply with the Lakeside Dress Code. No sandals, shower shoes, flip-flops, beach shoes, or bare feet will be allowed. Camp will be over at approximately 1230 for the majority of the cadets; therefore your commitment is from 0900 to 1230 on these four days.  You must attend all four days to earn the mini camp ribbon and certificate.

All cadets interested in participating in the Raider and/or Drill Teams during mini-camp are requested to arrive early on 28-31 August, for practice/conditioning training.   Raiders 0700-0745 and Drill Team 0800-0845.  Follow-on practice sessions after 3 August are TBD.  Raider Team wears physical training clothes for the conditioning training and must bring a change of clothes for the mini-camp.
