Weekly Write Up

Dear Parents,

Can you  believe a new decade has begun? WOW!!  I hope you all had a very restful and relaxing holiday!! My family and I went to Colorado for a week. I came back and it is colder here than there!!
Speaking of cold weather, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. We do go out during the afternoon for recess unless it is under 40
º outside. This is according to Cobb county policy. Students who do not have a jacket will not be allowed to go outside with us.
Parent teacher conferences are this month! January 25th -29th. Please look for more information coming in Thursday folders this week.
We are excited to announce that a new special has been added for 5th grade this semester! Mrs. Robinson, our media specialist, will be seeing our class every rotation now! Students will be working on research and language arts skills that are aligned with the GPS.

To help your child find books on his or her level use this tool through Barnes & Noble....  Search for Books by Lexile at Barnes & Noble.  Barnes & Noble, the world’s largest bookseller, now offers its customers the ability to search for books by Lexile measure—in stores and online at Barnes & Noble.com.  (Lexiles are another way that books are leveled.  To find out more about Lexiles and levels go to the “Links” page on our website and under the Reading heading select Book Leveling  - This is a website that provides information on book levels/Lexiles/AR.)
When shopping in stores, there are two ways to find books at your Lexile level: you can ask a sales associate at the service desk to look up titles by their Lexile measure; or, in stores that have customer kiosks, you can visit Barnes & Noble.com and conduct your own search for books at your Lexile level. When shopping online, Barnes & Noble.com offers a Lexile Reading Level wizard that allows you to build a custom book list based on your Lexile measure and interests. The Lexile wizard is available on the “B&N Kids” page, in the box called “Easy Search Tools for Children’s Books” (see below). To launch the Lexile wizard, click on the “Find Children’s Book” button.
