Four Stages of Second Language Acquisition
Preproduction-New to English -- "silent period"
Early Production - Limited comprehension -- few words or short phrases
Speech Emergence - Longer phrases and simple complete sentences
Intermediate Fluency - Engages in conversation and written narratives -- few
errors in speech but still errors in the written language
