Moving to Middle School

Going to middle school is a big step for both students and parents. The following are common questions that parents often have about the transistion.
  1. What activities take place to help my student adjust to middle school?
  2. What immunizations are needed for middle school?
  3. Do I have to complete a registration form?
  4. What middle school will my student attend?
  5. Will we get to visit the middle schools?

What activities take place to help my student adjust to middle school?

We have several activities planned to enable your student to make a smooth
transition to middle school. The dates for these will be announced later in
the fall. These activities include select fifth graders shadowing middle
school students, visits to the middle schools, visits from the middle school
counselors, and guidance lessons.

What immunizations are needed for middle school?

All students entering 6th grade must have 2 MMR vaccines, 3 Hepatitis B
vaccines and a proof of immunity to Varicella in their records. You should
receive a notice during conference week if your student does not have these
immunizations. These must be on form #3231. Please call Mary Cain - 770-975-
6673 if you have any questions.

Will we get to visit the middle schools?

Because of recent budget restrictions this trip will not take place this
year. Counselors from both Awtrey and McClure will visit Lewis on May 11 to
help the students get ready for the tranisition. The middle schools are also
planning extra time for open houses to help with this. Check the middle
school web site for more information.
