Week of November 30
Reading
We will continue to work with the narrative elements of character, setting, plot. With plot we will focus on problem and solution. Your child's bag book is a great place to help reinforce these elements at home. Students should be able to answer questions like who, what, when, where, and why. We will be learning a new skill of comparing and contrasting story elements.
Math
This week we will review place value. Students will also review ten more, ten less, greater than, less than, and numbers in a sequence. Students will be expected to be able to count by 10s and 5s to 100 forwards and backwards. Students will also begin to count by 2s to 50 forwards and backwards. Timed addition math tests will also begin this week. Students should practice facts at home. We will begin with 0 and as students receive a 90 or better on their timed test, they will move up until they are adding to 18.
Social Studies
We will begin a journey through the continents and oceans. Students will become pirates of knowledge as we visit each continent and ocean. We will be having pirate dress-up day on Early Release Day. This is not something students have to buy items for but is a fun dress up day for our class.
