Ms. Donielle:
I began teaching special education students in 1996. While attending college
in Michigan I earned degrees in Cognitive Impairments and Curriculum,
Instruction, and Assessment. As a result, I’ve worked with a variety of
ability levels in elementary, high school, and post-secondary school
programs.
My family moved to the Metro Atlanta area from Michigan in 2009. I like
living in the South and haven’t started to miss the snow yet!
When I’m not at school I enjoy spending time with my family doing anything
that they want to do, working with seniors and youth through my church, and
working with my sorority.
Monarch is a learning community that I am thankful to be a part of.
Ms. Maggie:
I am from the Dominican Republic. I lived in New York City for twenty-five
years and I have been living in Buford for six years. I am married and have
two daughters, Samantha and Sharlyn. I love to collect cook books and I use
them often to prepare a variety of dishes. I have worked at Monarch for six
years and this is my second year in the ADAPT program. I enjoy working with
the young adults and teaching them to become independent.
Ms. Melinda:
After graduating from the UF (Yes, I’m a gator), I enjoyed a career in
journalism where I met and married my husband, Tim. Our daughter, Dena, was
born in Mickey’s backyard. I recently completed UGA’s special education
graduate program, and have been a special education paraprofessional with
Gwinnett County Public Schools since 2003. This is my second year working in
Monarch’s ADAPT program. I find it especially rewarding to witness these
young adults master important functional and job skills.
When I’m not working, I enjoy reading; gardening; cooking; health/wellness;
and nutrition – a must in keeping up with friends and family which now
consists of an active college student, an over-achiever sports-minded
husband, and rambunctious but lovable Doberman named Dakota.
It is our mission to provide an environment that will encourage the students
to meet and exceed their goals. Our desire is to see students operating as
effective, contributing members of our society with the self esteem and
confidence to conquer any obstacle that may be present.
