Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year!  I am thrilled to be back teaching 
art for my fourth year at Mount Vernon Presbyterian School.  We have so much 
to look forward to this year in the art room.

The 3 year olds have art once a week for 30 minutes and the pre-K, young 5s, 
and kindergarten classes have a 40 minutes art class once a week.  Each class 
consists of a welcome, introduction and demonstration, completed by hands-on 
application of the concept or technique.

As the year progresses, and the children become better adapted to the art 
room setting, they also become more self-sufficient.  Not only do they 
collect materials from various parts of the room and clean-up after 
themselves, but their mobility enables them to make certain visual 
decisions.  This is all part of the inherent risk-taking nature of making 
art.

It is always my intent to assist children in recording their visual voices, 
and an atmosphere of true respect and interest are at the core of what I hope 
to maintain.
