About The Teacher
This is my fourth year as the MVPS Preschool and Kindergarten art teacher. Although I was born in Mobile, Alabama, I was raised in Decatur, Georgia where I graduated from Druid Hills High School. I attended the University of Vermont and Georgia State University and received my B.F.A. in drawing and painting, and my M.A.Ed in art education. With mom breaks here and there, I have been teaching art for 17 years! My first job teaching art was with the Peace Corps in Seronga, Botswana (along the Okavango Delta). That was a nice backdrop for some art field trips, but watch out for the mambas! When I returned to the States, I had a great 5 years teaching at Rainbow Elementary in Dekalb County. This is when I took a major break enjoying motherhood with my two sons, and teaching art very part time at Avondale Patillo Christian School in my old neighborhood of Avondale Estates. My family moved to Dunwoody 5 years ago to be closer to my husband's business, and we love our new neighborhood in The Branches. Most of my spare time activities revolve around my two sons, who are now 11 and 13, and very involved in tennis, piano, and loving life. I teach art because I believe it is a valid and essential experience for all humans, especially children. Being involved with children, their energy and enthusiasm, is a privilege. I look forward to a great year. Michelle Erling
