What curriculum does MVPS offer to preschool children?

The preschool provides a curriculum for 3 year olds through Young 
Five's 
that is designed to nurture and enrich the whole child.  
Readiness skills in 
language arts and mathematics are balanced with science, social 
studies, 
art, music and foreign language.  Each classroom offers a wide 
variety of 
activities to meet individual learning styles.

Explain the student/teacher ratio:

Classes are taught by highly qualified, experienced teachers.  
Many 
educators have a Master's degree or are engaged in that process.  
In our Pre-K classes, associate teachers help facilitate 
individualized 
learning experiences within the classes,

What is the Pre-Kindergarten curriculum?

The Pre-Kindergarten curriculum continues the concepts presented 
in the 
three-year old level.  Alphabet and phonics skills are expanded 
and number 
concepts include 1 to 20.  Mount Vernon's Pre-K literacy program 
is Scott 
Foresman.  This research based curriculum emphasizes age 
appropriate 
instructioin in the skills necessary for reading success.  The 
mathematics 
curriculum is Everyday Math.  Skills and concepts are taught in a 
meaningful 
ways using concrete materials.  The Pre-K handwriting curriculum 
is 
Handwriting Without Tears

Explain the literacy program:

The Scott Foresman curriculum is divided into five unit themes, 
each five 
weeks in length.  Through meaningful, relevant books, materials 
and 
experiences, the following skills are taught and facilitated:
Oral Language, shared reading experiences, phonemic awareness 
activities, 
letters and sounds/phonics, language arts, vocabulary 
development, and 
rhyming word families

Explain the math program:

Everyday math is a 'hands on' curriculum emphasizing learning 
through 
meaningful, concrete experiences.  Through these experiences, the 
following 
skills are emphasized:  Sorting, classifying, sequencing, numeral 
recognition 1-20, seriation, patterning, measurement, money 
identification, 
set identification, counting.

Explain the handwriting program:

The Handwriting Without Tears curriculum uses multisensory 
techniques and 
consistent habits for letter formation to teach handwriting.  
Emphasis is on 
development of the following skills:  Letter formation, self 
confidence, 
pencil grip, body awareness and posture.
