The Accelerated Reader program is one in which students read books, take a comprehension test on the book and earn a certain number of points based on the difficulty of the book. The tests are for all types of books from fiction to non-fiction. All readers from beginners to advance can participate in the A.R. reading program to become a better reader. A.R. is part of our reading program and participation will count as part of the reading grade since time is provided daily to work on the assignments. Failure to meet reading goals will impact completing homework section on reportcards and class participation. Credits are only earned when a student scores 80% or higher on the tests they take; therefore, the program encourages the students to read carefully before taking tests. Accelerated Reader is a great incentive program, and rewards for reading encourages the students to read more which will help improve even the best readers. Students who meet their reading goal will earn 1 ticket. Children are expected to read and test with 80% or highter on a minimum of 1 book every two weeks (weekly if reading short stories) within thier reading range.
