Philosophy
The North Hall High School Media Center is committed to providing an
environment in which students may develop their knowledge, abilities,
skills, and interests through access to diverse resources, experiences,
opinions, and perspectives. The Media Center program strives to be the
foundation of the total school program by serving as the central location
for teaching and learning.
Mission Statement
The mission of the North Hall High School Media Center is to support the
educational goals and objectives of the school by ensuring that both
students and staff are effective users of information and ideas. The
programs of the Media Center also aim to provide students with the essential
skills necessary for lifelong information retrieval and motivation to pursue
reading as a vitally important activity in our world.
North Hall High School provides an education for approximately 1100
students. The Media Center has 14 computer workstations and 2 computer
lookup stations. Each computer is networked with access to the Internet,
InfoCentre Card Catalog, Microsoft Office Suite, Accelerated Reader,
Discovering Collection, World Book Online,Inspiration and Encyclopedia
Britannica, World and I, Magill on Literature, Pro and Con Online.
For student and class use, the Media Center has 10 rectangular tables, 5
circular tables, and three study carrels. A section of the Media Center with
eight rectangular tables is equipped with a mounted screen and LCD projector
for multimedia presentations.
The Media Center provides an expansive fiction, nonfiction, and reference
collection of over 22,000 books. Accelerated Reader books are labeled to
assist students in locating these books. In addition to the primary
collections, the Media Center has a small collection of career,
professional, and story collection books. A college corner is maintained by
the guidance office allowing students to obtain catalogs, brochures, and
applications for a variety of post-secondary schools.
Videotapes and equipment, which are available for teacher use, are located
in the equipment room. This room also houses the Peach Star and cable TV
taping and distribution equipment. A conference room is also available upon
request. Ellison letter cutting machines are housed in the conference room
as well.
