NEED HELP WITH YOUR ALGEBRA ASSIGNMENTS?
Technology: Computer
Subject: Algebra
Source: Algebra Help
This site provides help in almost every concept of basic algebra. From
combining like terms, to graphing equations, to factoring, this site
provides help at a very basic and step-by-step way.
I particularly liked the calculator section. For example, you can type in an
equation and click solve and the algorithm will not only offer the
solution, but show the step-by-step process from start to finish. There are
many valuable tools to show the class as a whole or individual students can
discover for themselves. Teachers can also use this site to
demonstrate every step in a clear and concise way without spending
valuable instruction time writing each step on the board.

BASKETMATH - INTERACTIVE SKILL GAMES
Technology: Computer Math Games
Subject: Algebra
Source: Science Academy
This site is particularly interesting because it is available in English and
Spanish. It provides practice for individual students which cover math
topics beginning with addition, subtraction, multiplication and
division and progresses to order of operation, word problems, distance,
exponents, bar graphs and verbal reasoning.
Players take turns to answer each question correctly. A correct answer earns
a goal. An incorrect answer shows the correct answer and not points. Because
of the different levels of expertise, this site is a fun way for students to
practice and improve their skill levels.
This site provides immediate feedback to help stuggling students.

ABSTRACT MATH ACTIVITIES

There are more than 700 different interactive activities which are
categorized into groups. Some of the categories are: memory and matching,
arithmetic, algebra, fractals geometry, logic, probability, visual
illusions, math magic, etc. These activities vary from very easy to
extremely difficult. Because of the wide range of ability levels, this is a
good site to look for abstract activities many other sites might not have.

These activities will also provide every good
exercise for English as Second Language students. There are interactive
activities, lesson plans, teaching strategies, and tools. I tried some of
the Math Hunt activities and found them to be excellent opportunities to
teach reading for understanding within the math content area.

MEGA MATHMETICS
Technology: Computer
Subject: Variety
Source: Los Alamos National Laboratory
I really liked this site. The very first selection was The Most Colorful
Math of All which helps integrate coloring into math lessons. Then ties
color into industrial applications.
Other areas of interest are: games on graphs, untangling the mathematics
knots, algorithms and ice cream for all, the machine that eats your words,
etc. The concepts presented within this site are unique and interesting.
This site explains the vocabulary of math very clearly. For example: The
very word graph is a most confusing term. In fact, most of the special
terminology of graph theory consists of familiar words that have special
meaning in the context of graphs. The entire site explains each math term
being used. This can be very helpful for Teacher of English Language
Learners (although this site is too wordy for ESOL students to read alone).
