Primary Years Programme

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) focuses on the development
of the whole child as an inquirer, encouraging students to ask
questions to make sense of their learning.

Subject area AKS are integrated into six transdiciplinary units
and taught at the conceptual level enouraging and enabling students
to link content knowledge to their prior knowledge and to their
lives and the world around them.

Summative assessments at the end of each unit invite students
to extend their learning by putting it into action.

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is the official curriculum
framework of the International Baccalaureate Organization.  The
framework consists of six organizing themes that focus the instruction
of the Gwinnett County Public Schools' Academic Knowledge and Skills.
The following are the six conceptual themes:

Who We Are

Where We Are in Place and Time

How We Express Ourselves

How the World Works

How We Organize Ourselves

Sharing the Planet

The PYP emphasizes the use of formative and summative assessments.  The formative assessments guide instruction by checking students'
knowledge of daily lessons.  The summative assessment is an end
of the unit assessment that challenges students to apply the skills
they have learned throughout the unit.
