Inquiry

-   The PYP creates an environment that encourages students to build their own understanding of new ideas based on their own experiences and prior learning.  This occurs through inquiry based instruction.  The following are examples of inquiry based instruction:

  • Exploring, wondering, and questioning
  • Experimenting and playing with possibilities
  • Making connections between previous learning and current learning

The PYP utilizes key concepts to help teachers and students frame their questions that will guide inquiry.  The following are key concepts:

Form What is it like?
Function How does it work?
Change How is it changing?
Causation Why is it like it is?
Connection

How is it connected to other things?

Perspective What are the points of view?
Responsibility What is our responsibility?
Reflection How do we know?
