About The Teacher

Hello, Bonjour, Hola! My name is Flaviana Nicholas and I teach 8th grade
Physical Science at J.E.R Richards Middle School. I grew up in the Virgin
Islands and I am a mother of two lovely girls, Makala and Aylana. I attended
Georgia State University. At Georgia State, I obtained a B.A. in Middle
school Education with Certification in Social Studies and Science. My goal
is to attain a master’s degree in Science Education and obtain my specialist
degree in the future. I absolutely love teaching and hope to continue my
teaching and learning for years to come!

Mission For The Class

I was told that education is the building block of every society. I also
believe that this statement is also true. I believe that every child
regardless of his/her ethnicity, socioeconomic background, religion or even
his/her living conditions deserves an equitable education. I believe that
all students have the capacity to learn and are capable of learning. I
believe that students are curious and the role of education is to help them
find ways to answer that curiosity so they can become life-lonf learners.
To be meaningful, education must move beyound the classroom and into the
world in which they live. Students not only need an education, but they need
one that will prepare them to be productive members of society. Because the
world is made up of different people, learners, cultures, students need to
learn to interact and get along with each other. I want to develop in my
students such characteristics as: problem-solving, creative thinking and
decision-making. The education that each student receives should also
prepare each child to compete globally. I want to guide my students in
setting age appropriate goals. I want them to be sure about themselves,
confident and self-determine. Most of all I want them to become lifetime
learners. I want them to know that they will always have someone in their
corner, cheering for them. Most importantly, I want to make an impression on
their lives that will follow them for a very long time. As a teacher, I want
to instill my love for learning in my students and for them to strive for
excellence. The last thing I want to leave with my students is that they
should take responsibility for their own education and not leave it up to
others and that all of us have strengths and weaknesses , which make us
the individuals that we are.
