The purpose of the Character Education Program is to integrate good character traits into the total school environment, as well as into the community. These words and definitions focus on the attitudes and personal qualities that build a foundation for success in life and work. These character traits are imbedded throughout the curriculum and are a daily focus of both students and school staff members. Words of the Month August - Respect (Self-Respect, Respect for Others, Respect for Authority, Respect for Learning) Showing regard for the worth of someone or something. Featured books: Fireflies by Julie Brinckloe The Hundred Penny Box by Sharon Mathia September - Integrity (Honesty, Trustworthiness, Self Control, Justice) consistently be truthful and fair. Featured book: Harriet and the Garden by Nancy Carlson Humbug by Nina Bawden October- Responsibility (Positive Attitude, Accountability, Honor, School Pride) Taking care of one's self and others; to carry out a duty or task carefully and thoroughly. December - Compassion (Gratitude, Generocity, Kindness) Showing concern or empathy.
