How often do you update grades?

I update MyGradebook.com usually every weekend and send out an email. I send
home an updated average with your student after every test.

Can you send me stuff through email?

Absolutely! It is my preferred method of communication. Just email me at
flournoy.christopher@fcboe.org.

What calculator do I recommend?

I teach from a TI-84 Plus Silver edition, and I write programs for it as well.
I like this calculator because of its speed and the vast amount of memory it
has. AAT students will be ok with a regular TI-83 or TI-83 plus. MMM
students will be fine with a TI-30X or similar model.

What should I do if my child needs extra help?

1. Come see me before or after school
2. Peer tutor from Beta Club (see counselor)
3. Private tutor (I can send you a list).

#1 and #2 are free. #3 is not. The going rate from math tutoring in Fayette
County is $35-$40 an hour.

What type of extra credit do you give?

I issue raffle tickets for various activities (doing and explaining warm-ups,
logic problems, bonus problems, etc.) that may be attached to quizzes or
notebook checks for 1 point each. They may not be used on tests, HW or the
final exam. For tests, you may earn 0, 1, 3, or 5 points in a review game and
3 additional points for getting a progress report signed and returned. A
weekly HW extra credit is offered on the calendar. A weekly math trivia
question is located in the back of the room.

What kind of notebook does my child need?

I recommend a three-ring, two-inch binder. They should keep all warm-ups,
handouts, bookwork, worksheets, homework, notes, and old quizzes and tests in
their notebook. We will have a notebook check on a regular basis over the
contents of their notebooks.

How is homework graded?

Homework is assigned for every section and is graded on completion and
accuracy. HW checks consist of up to 5 points for completeness and work shown
and up to 5 points for accuracy from 5 randomly selected problems. I take up
to 4 questions in class over homework. I encourage students to come before
and after school if they have more than 4 questions or fundamentally do not
understand how to do the HW problems.

What is the make-up policy?

Missing review days will not excuse a student from taking a test or quiz upon
his/her return. Homework is due immediately upon return to class. All missed
work must be completed within five days of an EXCUSED absence. After five days
the missing grades will be zeros. It is a student's responsibility to stay
after school or come early before school and make up his/her work. Be out as
little as possible. You miss a day you miss a lot. Students have a calendar,
so they know in advance what it is they have missed. Field trips are not
absences and therefore the 5-day rule does not apply. Everything is due
immediately after the field trip. Preferably, it needs to be done before the
field trip.
