About The Teacher
Hello. This my 15th year teaching at SCHS. I teach mathematics, but I am also certified to teach science and English. I love all subjects and enjoy assimilating knowledge from all fields. I was born in 1973 in Newnan, GA and have lived in Coweta County, Georgia all my life. All of my grandparents, great-grandparents and several great-great grandparents are buried locally, so you might say I am a homeboy. I graduated from Newnan High School in 1992 as salutatorian and STAR student. I received my B.A. degree in mathematics summa cum laude in 1996. I received my M.Ed in secondary math education from Georgia State in 2002. I received my Ed.S in secondary math education in 2006 from UWG. I will begin work on my doctorate soon. This is a big deal for me because I was the first person in my family ever to graduate from high school. I enjoy Star Wars, trivia, playing with my daughters, muscle cars, reading classic novels, road biking (I have a Trek), hiking mountain trails, reformed theology, church history, Bible apologetics, and creation science. I sponsor two clubs: Mu Alpha Theta - the national math honor society; Teens for Christ Bible Club - a weekly, devotional Bible study for students. I am a member of the High IQ societies Mensa (top 2%) and Intertel (top 1%). I am married to another teacher here at my school, Kelley Flournoy. We have a 7 year old daughter, Rebekah Elizabeth and a 3 year old daughter, Anna Marie. My favorite music groups are Casting Crowns, Third Day, Shai Linne, and The Inspirations. My favorite movies include Facing the Giants, Courageous, Star Wars (with Empire being the best of the bunch), Ben Hur, Braveheart, The Patriot, Planet of the Apes (the original), and The Ten Commandments. Mission
I strongly believe in Sandy Creek's motto "Success Is a Choice." Students' grades and performance in their classes are a direct result of choices they make on a daily basis. At its core, math is not really about numbers, notation, variables, or shapes. It is about logic. Having an ability to use the rules of logic to go from one truth statement to another is a lost skill in our society. When students leave my class at the end of the year, I want them to have an ability to think logically, to interpret the world around them in terms of numbers, and have an appreciation of the beauty of mathematics. I am very dedicated to preparing students for their first year on college as well as the rest of their lives. I love math and I love teaching math. I hope to instill some of this love in the students. I try to show students that math is very useful and fun. Mathematics is wonderfully fascinating. It is both an art and a science. Galileo Galilei said it was the language with which God had written the universe. I try to be the kind of teacher I would want as a student in hopes that the students will be the kinds of students they would want if they were the teacher.
