What should I do if my child is sick?

Please send a note or email to Mrs. Gresham the day your child
returns. You can also send an email to let me know that your
child is sick. If you know your child is going to be absent or
leaving school early for a doctor's appointment, please let me
know this as well so that I can have your child pack up early.

Can I eat lunch with my child?

You may eat lunch with your child after Labor Day. I ask that
parents not eat lunch with their kindergarteners the first month
of school so that your child can gain independence in the lunch
room.

Please do not bring your child a purchased lunch from a fast food
restaurant because it is unfair to the other children. Thank you
for your cooperation.

What should I send for snack?

Our class will have a monthly snack calendar. This calendar will
be sent home at the beginning of each month in your child's take
home folder. Each family will be assigned a day to provide snack
for our classroom. Your child will bring home our class snack
basket the night before you are assigned snack. Please send
snack items that will be easy to distribute.

Some great healthy snack ideas include apple slices, grapes in
individual bags or pulled off the vine, animal crackers, pretzel
sticks, orange slices, etc. Please provide napkins, plates, or
any additional paper products needed for your snack. Thank you!

Can I bring a treat for my child's birthday?

Yes! Birthdays are very special, especially in kindergarten! You
may bring cookies or another small treat to school to be eaten.

As you are deciding on a treat, please be mindful that we will
only have a short amount of time for the birthday celebration.
Cookies, cookie cakes, and donuts are a few treats that work
well. Please do not bring balloons, candles, or other favors.
Please let me know prior to the day that you are coming. If your
child has a summer birthday, you may choose another date to
celebrate this special day at school!

It is my policy not to send home birthday party invitations
unless there is one for every child. I am happy to send these
home in Take Home Folders if there is an invitation for every
child. Thanks for your cooperation!

do not send your child a lunch from a fast food restaurant
because it is unfair to the other children.

How can I make sure that all of my child's important papers get to school?

Each day your child will be bringing home a take home folder.
Take a few minutes each night to go through this folder. I
encourage you to establish a routine to go through the folder
with your child each night. This will give your child the
opportunity to explain any work that has been
sent home. Any communication from me or the school will come
home in this folder. If you need to send a note to school,
please send it in your child's folder. I go through these
folders everyday.

I would like your child to be responsible for making sure his or
her take-home folder is brought back to school each day. Help
instill a sense of responsibility in your child by allowing him
to pack his backpack each night with his folder.

What can I do at home to help my child have a successful year in kindergarten?

The most important thing you can do is read every night with your
child. It is important that you model good reading for your child
and help your child develop a love of books! After reading a
book, have your child retell the story or draw a picture of his
or her favorite part.

Also, encourage your child to write at home! Take pictures of
places you visit as a family and then help your child write about
the adventure!

What should I do if I need to change my child's dismissal plan for the day?

If you know in advance that your child's dismissal plan will be
changing for the day, please send a note in your child's folder.
Please include the date of the change, the specific way your
child will leave school, and your signature.

If you need to make a change during the school day,
please call and explain the details to Ms. Bobbie in the office.
You may also fax the change to the kindergarten campus. If you
email the change to me during the
school day, I may or may not receive the email before dismissal.
You may always send an email after you speak to Ms. Bobbie, but
an email the day of the change should not be your only means of
communicating the change.

If your child tells me at the end of the day that he or she is to
go home with a friend, but I have not recieved a note and you
have not contacted Ms. Bobbie, I am unable to change your child's
dismissal plan for the day. This is for the safety of your
child. Thank you for your understanding.

Why does my child need to keep an extra set of clothes in his or her backpack?

I ask that every child keep an extra set of clothes in his or her
backpack. I recommend that you keep this clothes(pants/shorts,
shirt, socks, and underwear) in a gallon size baggie. These
clothes are used for a variety of reasons. If your child has an
accident, spills milk at lunch, or slips in the mud during PE or
recess, it is important to have a change of clothes.

Make sure you occasionally change the clothes in the bag to
reflect the season/weather.
