* Dr. Abby McKinnon has been named a 2008-2009 semi-finalist for the Atlanta Public Schools Teacher of the Year!

* The Georgia Department of Education has recognized Sarah Smith Elementary as a 2007 Gold Award Winner for Highest Percentage in meeting and exceeding academic standards at 98.58%.  More information on this award as well as other award-winning schools, please visit the Georgia Department of Education website at www.gadoe.org.  We also received the 2008 Highest Achievement Award from the Georgia Department of Education as one of the Top 10 schools in the state with regard to reading achievement.

*  Dr. Sidney Baker, principal, has been named a 2008 Georgia High Performing Principal.  This is the third year in a row Dr. Baker has been awarded this honor.

*  Atlanta Magazine, January, 2006 edition, has named Sarah Smith Elementary as the top public school in Atlanta!

* Sarah Smith was named a Gold School for 2007-2008 by the Georgia Department of Education for having over 97% of the students meet or exceed expectations on the Criterion Reference Compentency Tests.
 
*  A team of 4th and 5th grade girls are now preparing for a dance competition in the spring in Atlanta.  Coaches for the dance team are Mr. Montano, Ms. Payne, and Ms. Shelton.
