Our IB Unit for January-February-  "Me On A Map"

Theme:    Where we are in place and time
An inquiry into orientation in place and time: personal histories; homes and journeys; the discoveries, explorations and migrations of humankind; the relationships between and the interconnectedness of individuals and civilization, from local and global perspectives.

Central Idea: Individuals are a part of a larger community that includes neighborhoods, cites, states, countries, continents, and the world.

Ways to Help Support the Unit at Home
                 Let your child read a map
                 Have your child draw and lable one room in your house
                 Discuss the 'roots' of your family -  Where did it start   We will put it on our map
 
 Needed Materials:
        Send in  postcards of places you have been in the US and world
        Have your child bring in information about where their family started- there "roots"
        Bring in different maps
         
Summative Assessment - in the classroom
Students will draw and label a map.  TSW explain the map to the teacher or the class..
