| Mr. K and Mrs. Wright’s Kindergarten Klatter
Greetings! We had a fantastic start to our Kindergarten year last week. We
spent our time learning routines and procedures, getting to know our new
school family, and started to lay the foundation for a solid sense of
classroom community. If you hadn't heard, we even had our first "DISCO
DAY"! The first of many to come.
Your child is fortunate to have 3 teachers in his/her classroom at the
beginning of this year. Jonathan Blase will be doing his student teaching
in our room for 14 weeks. He is currently observing and helping with small
groups (among many other things). He will take over full teaching
responsibilities for 3 weeks in October. Mrs. Wright and I will be present
in the room during this time. I have every confidence that Jonathan is
going to excell in the teaching profession. We are lucky to have him as we
begin our year!
This week, we continue to work on classroom community, but also jump into
the curriculum. Here is an idea as to what your child will be doing this
week:
Phonics: We begin our "phonics party" by working with the /p/ and /b/
sounds. We will dictate these sounds, generate words that contain these
sounds, practice proper handwriting strokes for the letters, and
sort/classify picture cards that begin with these sounds.
Our sight word for the week is "a".
In the spirit of our exploration of /p/ and /b/ please dress your child in
either Purple, Pink, Blue, Black, or Brown on Friday.
Math: Our Everyday Math curriculum begins this week as well. Our lessons
will include a study of pattern blocks, counting down to zero, comparing
lengths, identifying the numbers 1-10, and estimating a given quantity.
IB: We will formally begin our "We Are Special" unit. During this unit, we
will continue to work on classroom community through sharing our artifact
bags, and examine similarities and differences that exist between people.
Friendly Reminders:
Please send in your child's head portrait and fish scale by this Friday,
August 22nd.
MealPay should be up and running...if you have any questions, please contact
Bobbie in the main office.
PTA meeting Tuesday
Please return Federal Lunch forms whether or not you are applying for
free/reduced lunch. We are required to submit a signed form for every child.
THANKS!
Response to our class wishlist items has been overwhelming! We have
received virtually everything that we have asked for. I can't express how
grateful we are, and how wonderful it feels to know that we have such great
support this year. It is GREATLY appreciated!
Also, I'd like to thank everyone who signed up to chaperone field trips, be
Friday parent readers, and to our room mom's Shanna Smith and Charlene
Lancaster.
If you ever need anything, please don't hesitate to contact me. Looking
forward to a terrific year!
-Kenny, Cathy, and Jonathan
