Why does my child need to read each night?
We have the students read each night because, statistics show that children
who spend time reading (or being read to) each day perform better on
standardized tests and generally earn higher grades in school.
What are "sticks?"
Mrs. Kaczay uses "sticks" for classroom management of daily work habits and
behavior. Each student begins the day with zero sticks and an "E" for
excellent. If a student chooses to neglect homework or classwork, or he
chooses not to follow our "essential agreements," he will be asked to "take
a stick" which will lower his daily conduct grade to an S- (less than
satisfactory). If a second stick is pulled in the same day, his conduct
grade will be lowered to N (needs improvement). If the final stick is
pulled, his grade will be U (unsatisfactory) and he will fill out a "think
sheet" regarding his actions for the day, which he will bring home to share
with you. This sheet should be signed and returned the next day.
What time should students be at school?
Students may come to the classroom at 7:30. I recommend that
students arrive in our class by 7:45, if possible. That gives them time to
get their morning procedures taken care of before 8:00. It also allows
them enough time to complete the morning assignments. If a student
is behind on getting assignments completed, they may want to come at
7:30 to have some extra time to work.
