The students are responsible for copying their own homework in their agendas
at the end of each day. Typically, homework consists of:
1. Having a parent/caretaker initial the agenda daily. I do check these
each morning. It is not necessary to initial on Friday after school.
2. Reading each night before bed (10-15 minutes is acceptable). A parent
may also read to the child some nights. Feel free to take turns. The
important thing is that reading skills are being learned either way. It is
still important for children at this age to be read to.
3. Math Home Link. Please check the Home Link each evening with the purple
Parent Letter that comes home at the beginning of a new unit.
4. Daily DLR. Please check for corrections.
5. Practicing basic math facts. During the first quarter, addition and
subtraction facts should be reviewed each night using flash cards or a
website such as www.aplusmath.com. Timed quizzes will periodically be
given. During the second quarter, multiplication facts are assigned and
will need to be mastered by the end of the year. Again, timed quizzes will
be given as we learn the sets of facts.
6. Occasionally, I will assign writing in the Writer's Notebook (composition
book). I will expect the students to write at least half a page and finish
their entry with a "feeling sentence."
