Updated 7/07 CURRICULUM Welcome to Challenge. For those new to the program our focus this year is Reading. We will be working in the Jr. Great Book series. This is a shared inquiry reading program which allows great discussions and differences of opinions. Students read the text once for content and a second time to write directed notes. Two days of discussions follow - one on vocabulary and the other on content. Vocabulary quizzes and story tests will be given after every story. Story tests are usually essay questions based on note requirements and discussions. Story tests are always open-book. We will be working with the Future Problem Solving program for the months of October through January. This process consists of researching a topic, analyzing a future scence and solving a problem with the six step FPS process. In January/February we will be back to Jr. Great Books and add poetry interpretation. March we will also be working on short passages in preparation for the CRCT test in April. After the test in April we will shift to Aviation and Space Science and read and interpret information in that arena. SCHEDULE I see every class for 50 minutes each day.
