My name is Ms. Melanie Payne and I am very excited to be your 5th grade
teacher! I am looking forward to working with everyone this year. We have a
great many things to learn and discover together!
I want to take this opportunity to share some things about myself. I earned
my Bachelors degree from Wheelock College in Boston, Massachusetts. My
degree was a double major in Humanities, with a focus on history, and
Elementary Education. After graduation I moved to Atlanta, where I was hired
to work for APS. This is my third year at Sarah Smith and I am so excited
for it to get started!
I am the middle of three children. My older sister lives in Florida, my
younger sister lives in New York, and my parents live in Connecticut – we
really are stretched out along the east coast! I have lived in three
different states; Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Georgia. Also, I have
lived in three different countries; South Africa, South Wales, and the
United States. This means my accent can be quite hard to place at times!
I do have very high standards for my students. I expect that all students
will give their best effort at all times in all that they do. We will be
working in small groups, pairs, and individually in our quest to succeed in
5th grade. I like for my class to have fun in their pursuit of knowledge and
understanding. We will do both class and home projects, novel studies,
science experiments, and social studies explorations, just to name a few!
