PLEASE REVIEW AGENDA EACH NIGHT FOR ASSIGNMENTS OR NOTES. SEE IMPORTANT RULE
AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE REGARDING PREPAREDNESS.
4th and 5th grade Challenge will be team taught this year! Mr. Firesheets
and I are very excited to be working together in the auditorium with either 2
fourth grade classes or 2 fifth grade classes at a time. The focus of
Challenge will be to extend all curriculum. The homeroom teacher will be
giving the reading grade and we will continue to use the APS Challenge report
card. So, Challenge will not be a graded class. Students will still be
assessed and expected to participate and grow. This growth will be reflected
on the challenge report card.
We will continue to support the standards using the Junior Great Books.
Students will participate in Shared Inquiry discussion with a high level of
comprehension expected. They may need to read and study the stories at home
just as in the past.
Future Problem Solving Program will be used to develop research skills,
writing skills, informational reading comprehension, teamwork, future
thinking, and of course, problem solving. The topic for this year is:
Orphans. We hope to send more Sarah Smith students to competition this year
at the University of Georgia. More details on this program will come at Open
House on August 24th following homeroom orientation.
IMPORTANT RULE:
Students are allowed 2 missed assignments or FREEBIES per nine weeks. The
third event of not being prepared for Challenge will result in recess time
being spent with Ms. Carter and Mr. Firesheets.
