PLEASE REVIEW AGENDA EACH NIGHT FOR ASSIGNMENTS OR NOTES.

4th Grade Challenge Grading Policy

There will be 9-12 grades each nine week grading period. The following
items will be graded and weighted evenly:

Junior Great Books story tests (2-3)
Non-fiction, short passage comprehension tests (3-4)
Enrichment activities to further develop literature from Junior Great Books
(2-3)
Other – Future Problem Solving, Creative Problem Solving, Vocabulary tests
(2-4)
Class preparedness - supplies, JGB, and agenda (all students will begin with
100% here and points are deducted if materials are not in class when
appropriate)

Students will mark the text and keep a journal this year. This work will
only be checked for completion but not graded. The story test will reflect
the markings, journal work, and will be open book. Students will do well
on the test if they have completed the work. Completion of the work will
also add points if the grade averages are borderline. Story tests should be
completed during one to two class periods depending upon test length and
student needs. All text must be marked and the journal work complete in
order to have additional test time.

Students must complete the marking of the text prior to book discussions or
they will not be allowed to participate in our discussion as they will not
be prepared to critically discuss the literature. Story discussions are
critical to the success of our reading program as they develop critical
thinking skills and deeper comprehension.

If a student does not pass a test with an 80% or higher then, they have not
mastered the material. I will offer afterschool time to reteach/tutor and
retake the portions of the test not mastered. The new grade will then be
averaged into the student's reading grade. Therefore, all children will be
successful in challenge and master all material!

Work may be made up from absences. I will allow one week to make up
assignments. Tests must be taken before or after school.
