Will my child succeed not having as much or no French before?

Absolutely! Your child is now in a total immersion classroom and as long as 
he or she gives 100%,it will all come together. I am constantly using 
gestures and all kinds of manipulatives.

My child complains of not understanding the Teacher.

French is spoken throughout the entire class. Of course not every single word 
is comprehensible, but with frequent repetition and gesturing, things become 
easier and easier.

How is my child's grade decided?

In the Second and Third Grades,the composition is as follows:
                         Participation 50%
                         Classwork     20%
                         Projects      20%
                         Quizzes       10%
