I am looking forward to meeting parents at the first PTA Meeting and again
at the Third Grade Orientation on August 20 as well as the Fourth Grade
Orientation on August 24. I've enjoyed corresponding
with some of you by e-mail, answering your questions and

Merci beaucoup to all who have signed up for French Food Days. I will be
contacting you with dates and details as each one approaches. The only class
which has 2 open slots is Mrs. Wade's third grade. Let me know if that might
be something you would like to do to enhance the children's cultural
experience.
Please encourage your child to participate fully in French class every day.
It is so important for their success. 50% of their grade in French comes
from participation.
THIRD GRADE
August
Third Grade is currently working on the introductory unit called "Alex et
Zoe". It has the children reviewing or learning basic phrases for simple
communication purposes.
September
"Alex et Zoe" continues with the children learning how to give lots of
personal information about themselves: age, family members, pets, likes and
dislikes with food, clothing, hair and eye color, and classroom objects.
We complete the unit with personal interviews summarizing all this
information.
October
Our personal interviews went very well and we are now working on the new
theme, "La Television". We are singing about different types of TV shows and
discovering what TV shows the class prefers. We will continue working in the
weeks ahead toward the ultimate goal of producing an awards show, their
version of the Emmy Awards, to honor the favorite programs of the class.
FOURTH GRADE
August
Fourth Grade is working on the preview project for our thematic unit
called "La Pizza". The class has completed a survey of preferences in five
categories and have started graphing the results.
September
"La Pizza" continues with reading about making a pizza and finding out what
kinds of pizza the class prefers. The children are also learning how to
order a pizza in French with specific ingredient voacabulary.
October
The thematic unit, "La Pizza", will be completed with the students working
with a partner to write and present an original pizza recipe. Then it's on
to our next theme, "Les Fourmis", learning about the chararcteristics of
ants and how they compare to student behavior.
