Hi!
My name is Chaundra Yarbrough. I am very excited for the 2009-2010
school year! I have heard I will have one of the best classes at Sarah
Smith this year and am really excited to meet all of you!
This will be my fourth year teaching. I've taught two years here at
Smith and two years at Bramlett Elementary in Barrow County.
An important fact about me is that I’m Canadian. I grew up in the
city of Red Deer, Alberta. Red Deer is located 2 hours away from Calgary
(host of the 1988 Winter Olympic Games). My family still lives there and I
am able to visit them at least once a year.
I came to the United States in 2002 to receive my Bachelors Degree
in Education. I received a full-athletic scholarship from the University of
Oklahoma Track and Field Team (go Sooners!). I graduated from the
University of Oklahoma in 2006 and moved to Georgia to begin teaching, while
my husband (Chris) completed his law degree at the University of Georgia (go
Bulldogs!). We also have two wonderful dogs named Tucker and Betty.
I can't wait for us to share our summer stories and get to know one
another better. It's going to be a great year!
My mission is to create a positive learning environment. I want you to
feel safe to explore and expand upon new concepts. In doing so, I know that
this will create a rich learning environment that will make it easier for
you to explore at your own pace.
My classroom is mostly student-centered. This means that I will be giving
instructions and outlines for you to follow. You will be in charge of how
quick you learn the materials, as well as the format. This makes it more
exciting and meaningful, helping you to be a better student. I am truly
thrilled to be teaching you this year and can't wait for all the fun to
start!
