KINDERGARTEN NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF 11/23-11/27/09:
WE HAD ANOTHER WONDERFUL WEEK IN KINDERGARTEN!!
REMINDER: School will be closed this Wednesday, 11/25- Friday, 11/27 for
Thanksgiving Break! I hope that everyone has a wonderful time with their
family and friends. Thank you again for all the love and support you have
given to our classroom. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful parents
behind us!!
THE THANKSGIVING FEAST WAS A BLAST!! Thank you very much to all the parents
who joined us on Thursday to celebrate together all our blessings! The food
was so yummy and we had such a great time eating, singing, and hanging out
with you!
The Read-A-Thon was a HUGE success! Thank you to everyone for
participating. The final results are being tallied right now! We will have
the results very soon!
A very special thank you to Katie's mom, Susannah Balish, who was our Read-A-
Thon Chair and Head Cheerleader!!
Beginning this month we will be learning about a new author each month.
This month our author is Marc Brown of Arthur fame. Please feel free to
send any of your Arthur favorites to share with the class. Please make sure
all books are labeled so they can be returned at the end of the month!
We had a great time celebrating Ben King's birthday on Friday!
We had a great time with Henry's mom, Liz Mastrion, who stopped by to
decorate cookies with us during Fun Friday. YUM! YUM! We were also treated
to some of Charlie's favorite books when his mom, Katherine Reed, stopped by
for Parent Reader.
We are looking forward to our next Fun Friday Parent and Parent Reader when
we return from Thanksgiving Break.
This week in kindergarten we will create a Thanksgiving graph as well as
practice our addition skills. Thank you for sending in family games to share
last week. Game Day was a great success. Please let me know if you are
missing your game or any game pieces.
In writing we will be responding to various types of literature and creating
lists. We will continue our Lucy Caulkins series in January.
We will continue our next IB Unit: "What Does It Represent? We will create
our own version of the White House out of sugar cubes. Thank you so much to
those of you who have provided sugar cubes for us!
**THE AMERICAN SYMBOLS PROJECT IS DUE MONDAY, 12/7. Please let me know if
you have any questions. We will be sharing our projects that week and will
put them on display in the hallway. Stop by to check them out the week of
12/7.
We will be review previously taught sounds in phonics this week. We will
continue with Vowel Valley when we return from Thanksgiving Break with
the "i" sound as in igloo. We will also review some previously taught sight
words (also known as RED WORDS): I, a, the, this, & do.
JGB Week was such fun! We had so many wonderful discussions and the
questions were fantastic! Thank you so much for all your support!
