KINDERGARTEN NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF 11/9-11/13/09:

WE HAD ANOTHER WONDERFUL WEEK IN KINDERGARTEN!!


READ! READ! READ!  The Read-A-Thon began last Wednesday.  
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU RETURN YOUR CHILD'S BOOKLET EACH DAY!!  
A very special thank you to Katie's mom, Susannah Balish, who is our Read-A-
Thon Chair and Head Cheerleader!!  
We have some very fun things planned this week.  
~On Wednesday we will enjoy a READING DATE with Mrs. Campbell.  A permission 
slip will come home on Monday.  It MUST be signed and returned Tuesday in 
order for your child to stay.  We will enjoy a treat and some of Mrs. 
Campbell's favorite stories.  The Reading Date ends PROMPTLY at 3:30.  Please 
plan on picking up your child in front of the Annex at 3:30.
~READ ALL DAY!!  We will enjoy a day of reading on Friday.  Please plan on 
bringing some of your favorite books, favorite stuffed animal to share, and 
don't forget to wear your p.j.'s!
~SRS K-2 DAY AT THE BUCKHEAD LIBRARY!  Stop by the library on Saturday, 
11/14, to pick out some new books, see your friends and teacher, or get your 
very own library card.  Each child who comes will receive double points for 
their visit.  Mrs. Campbell will be there from 11:30-12:30.  Hope to see 
everyone there!

Beginning this month we will be learning about a new author each month.  This 
month our author is Marc Brown of Arthur fame.  Please feel free to send any 
of your Arthur favorites to share with the class.  Please make sure all books 
are labeled so they can be returned at the end of the month!

TURKEYS TURKEYS EVERYWHERE!!  The turkeys turned out GREAT!!  Take a minute 
to stop by and see what all the gobbling is about!  

We had a great time with James' mom, Petra Shaw, playing outside games during 
Fun Friday.  Mrs. Shaw even got in the spirit and wore her favorite hat!  We 
were also treated to some of Jack Kelly's favorite books when his mom, 
Michele, stopped by for Parent Reader.
We are looking forward to having Niamh Harris' mom, Aileen, here for Fun 
Friday and Crawford Young's mom, Beth,  here for Parent Reader this Friday.

We have also been treated to stories by other parents in support of our Read-
A-Thon.  A very special thank you to Mebane Pruitt, Erica Carter, Stephanie 
Ward, Liz Mastrion and Lea Bourne's grandmother.  If you are able to stop by 
and read to us after lunch (11:20-11:40) please let me know.
 
This week in kindergarten we will explore addition and subtraction through 
train games, create our favorite colors graph as well as a graph based on the 
book "Caps For Sale", practice counting by tens and play "Teen Frame Game" on 
Friday.  Stop by and check out our outside bulletin board for the wacky and 
fun scenarios we dreamed up based on probability.

In writing we will be responding to various types of literature and creating 
lists.  We will continue our Lucy Caulkins series in January.

We will continue our next IB Unit: "What Does It Represent?  We will explore 
the Liberty Bell, The Statue of Liberty, as well as the Bald Eagle with a 
lesson taught by our student teacher, Ms. Hollis.

We will be continue our study of the "Neighbors" in Phonics.  This week we 
will concentrate on the "Learning Neighbors": l & r. 

We will continue our reading series this week.  This week's theme is "What's 
For Dinner?"  
Our Anthology Story this week is a folk tale: "Grandfather Bear is Hungry".  
The Oral Vocabulary Cards for the week: "Little Juan and the Cooking Pot" and 
our whole group lesson story is "Our Special Sweet Potato Pie".  We will also 
participate in small groups twice this week as well as engage in a shared 
writing experience.
Please read through the weekly packet sent home on Monday and let me know if 
you have any questions or concerns.
