KINDERGARTEN NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF: 12/1-12/5/08
WELCOME BACK!! We hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with their
families and friends. Only 3 weeks until Christmas Break!! Can you believe
that?? We hope you are planning on joining us for our Christmas Party on
Thursday, 12/19 at 11:00. More details to follow!!
PLEASE NOTE!! Yearbooks will only be available ONLINE this year. Please
make sure you check out jostensyearbooks.com by 12/15!! Yearbooks are
$25.00 each. Please let Mrs. Campbell know if you have any questions or
concerns.
Help support the First Grade Community Service Project!! The First Graders
will be selling candy cane grams 12/10 for 25 cents each and hosting a
Holiday Craft Fair at the MC Gym on 12/11 from 2:45-4:00. All proceeds
benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Help show your support for a worthy
cause and have some fun holiday fun at the same time!!
Conor Gannon is our SPECIAL FRIEND OF THE WEEK!! Conor's name was
drawn to be our special friend of the week. Each week a name will be drawn
and that friend will have the opportunity to create a poster telling us all
about themselves (look for the pink notice in your child's red folder on
Fridays to know whether it is your child or not). We can't wait for Conor
to bring his poster in on Monday to share with us. We will then post it on
the door for the week so everyone at school can get to know our friend
Conor!!
Brownie had a great time with Aidan O'Brien last weekend. We can't wait
to see who he gets to go home with this weekend. Thank you so much to
everyone for taking such GREAT care of him!!
We are looking forward to our next Fun Friday Parent. Hugo's dad, Hugo
Falcon, will visit us this Friday, 12/5!.
Thank you so much to all our Fun Friday Parents.
Y'ALL ARE THE BEST!!
We are looking forward to Laney Noble's mom, Tracy, reading to us this
Friday, 12/5.
THIS WEEK IN KINDERGARTEN:
In phonics we will continue our Phonics Journey through Vowel Valley. Our
next stop is "i" as in igloo or icky. Please help your child find words
with this sound in their environment and encourage them to brainstorm their
own list of words.
Please help reinforce these sounds by reviewing the homework provided and
looking for words that include these sounds when you are out and about.
Thank you for supporting our learning!
In math we will create and continue patterns, explore pattern blocks,
interrupted counting, the calculator as well as play 2-Dice Roll and Record.
We have completed our "I AM SPECIAL" pages for our class book and our book
went home with Anna Kitts this week.
We completed our 3rd IB Unit: "American Symbols". We learned so many cool
things about our wonderful country!! Thank you again for all your support
with our American Symbols Projects. They all turned out so adorable and the
children did a fantastic job presenting their newly learned facts.
We will begin our 4th IB Unit: "Me on A Map". We will learn all about the
many types of maps and how we use each one of them. We will also be
collecting postcards from all over the world. Please review the information
letter sent home on Tuesday, 12/2, for our school address and tell all your
family and friends to send us postcards. We will display them outside our
classroom for everyone to see! Thank you so much for your support with this
fun and educational activity!!
Please stop by and check out our November Bulletin Board. We created our
own Statue of Liberty Crowns and then wrote about what we each represented.
The statements are very moving and the pictures are just adorable!!
Have you noticed your child making lists?? We are learning about the many
ways you can write. We are currently working on creating lists of all types
in our writing series by Lucy Caulkins. We will begin moving into letters
this week. We will each write our own letter to The President and sure hope
we hear back from him. We will also practice writing letters to our
classmates, friends, and family members. Thank you so much for supporting
our writing and encouraging your child at home to write as much as they want.
